2022 German Week

Thank you to all of our community for joining us to celebrate German Week and our 40+ years of bilingual education.

Leading 40+ years of bilingual education

In October, we celebrated the German Bilingual program at BSPS. Thanks to ideas, action and hard work of the German teachers we had a number of exciting events and activities over several days to focus on and celebrate both our program and the German language and culture.

On Tuesday, we had the Deutsche Schule Melbourne visit for the day. This involved a spirited soccer match between senior students from our two schools and the incorporation of DSM students into BSPS classes over the course of the day. It was a great chance to compare, share and learn about the way our two schools teach the German language.

Wednesday was the official German Day for BSPS and well done to all the students (and parents) for the terrific outfits and costumes worn on the day. We started the day with Herr Morf talking about the history of the bilingual program at BSPS, its importance and why we celebrate it. This led into an amazing parade of all the German themed outfits worn by students and staff alike.

During the day, students rotated around German themed special activities and finished the day with another fancy dress parade for VIPs. After school, attending students and families enjoyed a pretzel and sausage as they relaxed on the lower synthetic grass space and watched The Lion King in German, with English subtitles. Thanks to Whitefriars College for use of their portable large screen, and all of the staff and parent helpers that made this day such a success!

On Friday,  we celebrated our final events of the week – our Inaugural German Bake-off and special Cafe Klatsch session. Congratulations to all of our winners (and those selected to be judges!), and thank you to all of the participants and parents/carers who stayed back to enjoy a cuppa.

Thank you to...
