Language Classes Outside of School


At Bayswater South Primary School, we value the development of mother tongue language skills and celebrate the diversity of languages within our community. For those who may wish to develop their mother tongue, or learn another language outside of school, we have compiled a list of some organisations that provide these programs. Do you have a language school located nearby that you would like to recommend? Let us know and we can add them to our list so that other parents can find them too
In Victoria, we have schools that are specially accredited with the Education Department as ‘Community Language Schools’. These Community language schools language schools provide language programs to school-aged children (foundation to year 12), after school or on weekends.
These community-based, not-for-profit organisations offer programs in over 40 languages, which enable children to learn or maintain their mother tongue or heritage language.

Temple Society German Language School
Temple Society Australia was established more than 60 years ago, and offers after-hours classes which are taught by qualified teachers of German. They cater for students who come from families in which German is spoken consistently with at least one parent (Muttersprachler) as well as students who are learning, or want to start learning, German as a Second Language.




St Andrews Greek School
St Andrew's Greek Language School runs on two night and at two different locations in Melbourne's Eastern Suburbs : Blackburn English Language School (120 Eley Rd, Burwood East, VIC, 3151) and Livingstone Primary School (Livingstone Rd, Vermont South, VIC, 3133) The provide classes from Prep to Year 12.


Mandarin and Cantonese


Formosa Chinese School
Formosa Chinese School is a non-profit organisation and a DET (Victorian Department of Education and Training) accredited Community Languages School powered by a group of passionate volunteering parents. It provides classes from aged 3 and up. It is located in East Doncaster


Kai Xin Chinese Learning Hub
Kai Xin are based in Melbourne and specialise in teaching Chinese Mandarin to children from 4 year olds onwards. Classes in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne are available in Box Hill North, Glen Waverley, Hawthorn and Oakleigh.


Australasian Centre of Chinese Studies (ACCS)
The Australasian Centre of Chinese Studies offers courses in both Mandarin and Cantonese for children from 4 years old – Adult. They are located in Bentleigh, Box Hill, Endeavour Hills, Hawthorn and Mount Waverly as well as other locations around Melbourne.
